Research on peer feedback in practice

Last weekend at the eApril conference I attended a workshop on a research on using feedback in a MBO (intermediate vocational education) in the Netherlands. The researcher is Desiree Haan, who did hear research at Studio T. She was accompanied in the workshop by Ellen Venhuizen. The workshop was an interactive session on giving and receiving feedback. In this blog I focus on the research by Desiree.

Research Desiree Haan on giving and receiving peerfeedback

Desiree did her research at Studio T. The management at Studio T  chose to work with Virtual Action Learning (VAL) and the Virtual Learning Community” (VLC). The research was focussed on a group of  students, N=27 (16-22 years). The focus of the research is to find out if students (N=27, 16-22 years) are able to give and use constructieve feedback. From the results was found that in the total number of feedback (526 statements) 361 statements were constructive. It is concluded that the students are able to give constructive feedback. The students are stimulated to use the feedback, when they find the feedback useful. Does popularity have influence on giving feedback? No. Being popular doesn’t’ mean you receive more compliments. Also fail of failure has no effect.

Interested in this research? You can find the thesis here:  thesis and a presentation on the results (in dutch).
